Sensex and Nifty extended losses again in late afternoon trade on Monday as selling intensified across PSU bank, consumer durable, realty and oil & gas stocks. At 2:48 pm, the Sensex was down 1,019.50 points or 1.32 percent at 76,308.69, while the Nifty declined 281.35 points or 1.16 percent to 23,894.80. Market breadth remained weak, with 2,586 shares declining against 1,357 advances. India VIX stayed elevated above 18, while Nifty midcap and smallcap indices also traded lower. Consumer durables remained the worst-hit NSE sectoral index, down over 3 percent, while PSU bank and realty indices fell over 2 percent each. Pharma and FMCG stocks continued to show relative resilience.
